The 2022 Cheer season is coming...

UpdatedWednesday April 27, 2022 by Alisha Rayner.

Please find information about the upcoming 2022 season below. More information will be added and updated as dates and information become available.

REGISTRATION

This year there are two registration options for cheer: Competition and Sideline. Both competitive and sideline cheerleaders will learn a halftime/competition routine, sideline cheers and jumps, do fun stunts, and cheer on the football teams at their games.

Competition cheer is a bigger commitment and we expect more from our competition cheerleaders. There will be 3-4 practices weekly and as competition nears we may add additional practices to perfect our routine. Our coaches put in a lot of time and energy—crafting and teaching routines, watching and training stunting combinations, cutting and splicing music, and much more—and they need to know that their competitive cheerleaders are prioritizing cheer by attending practices super-focused and practicing outside of practice.

Sideline cheer is a great introduction to cheer or a great way to cheer if you have other priorities (i.e. play other fall sports). There will be 1 practice weekly.

Both competition and sideline cheerleaders will be expected to attend one game each Sunday (there will likely be an opportunity to cheer at games on Friday or Saturday throughout the season). The game schedule will not be released until late August at the earliest.

Still unsure about which program is right for your child? Please email Alisha at guilfordcheer@gmail.com.

COMMUNICATION

You will receive emails from coaches from outboound-mail@sportssignup.com. Additionally, as in the past, we will be using the Sports SIgn Up Play (SSU Play) app to communicate so please make sure to download the app.

SQUADS

Our registration ends for competition teams on 7/25/2022 and for sideline teams on 8/1/2022. We will determine our squads as soon as possible. When forming squads we adhere to league age categories as we work to form balanced squads to create a great experience for all participants.

PRACTICES

Our first practice will be the week of July 25th. Please plan on summer practices being outside at Long Hill Park (800 Long Hill Rd, Guilford, CT 06437). In the event of inclement weather practice will be moved to an indoor location (TBD).

For practices please have your child wear athletic shorts (no jean shorts), tank top or t-shirt, sneakers, and HAIR UP in a ponytail. And don’t forget to send a water bottle!

The 2022 summer and regular season practice schedule has not been set yet. As a reference, the summer schedule usually includes 3-4 practices per week for all participants. The regular season usually includes 3-4 practices per week for competition squads and 1-2 practices for sideline squads. More will be communicated as it becomes available.

PAPERWORK

One of our first tasks is to collect paperwork for league certification. Please follow the notes below to complete the necessary paperwork:

  • Go to guilfordyouthfootball.com and login.
  • Next to your child's name click 'Print Forms'.
  • Click 'Official AYF Player Pack' (8 pages long).
  • Please check each section carefully before printing (i.e. if you moved since last year update your address in the online system before printing, ensure your insurance information is up-to-date.)
  • Once reviewed, print all 8 pages.
  • Sign your name/child's name or initial each section where it is required. If there is any missing information we will have to return the paperwork to you.
  • One of the forms in the packet is a Medical Clearance Form that needs to be signed by your child’s doctor. It must be dated in 2021 so please drop it off asap since they can take a while to get it back to you.

In addition to the 8 page packet, we will also need a copy of the following:

  • Your child's original or certified birth certificate (if your child is returning you will not need to provide this).

ALL PAPERWORK IS DUE FRIDAY, AUGUST 5TH. Your child WILL NOT be able to practice if all paperwork is not submitted by this date.

We're amped up and ready to get started! Let's go Grizzlies!
